Book review: Luxe series by Anna Godbersen
Lately I've been in the mood for historical romance, and these books are set in the 1900's, so they've been a nice summer read. Basically, they're like historical soap opera. I've been reading the first two volumes, The Luxe and Rumors, I have ordered online the third volume, Envy and I have to wait for Splendor to be translated into Romanian by Nemira publishing house.
The books are about the Holland sisters, Elizabeth and Diana. Their family is facing poverty, so their mother pressures Elizabeth into marrying rich playboy Henry Schoonmaker. Henry is having an affair with Elizabeth's best friend Penelope Hayes, but his father wouldn't allow him to marry her because the Hayes family are "new rich", meaning they are not part of the old New York elite. Elizabeth is in love with one of her servants, William, and she's finding it hard to give him up for Henry. On the other hand, Henry gets bored with Penelope and he's starting to take an interest in Elizabeth's little sister, Diana.
You see how complicated everything is?Fixed marriages will do that to someone. So, will Elizabeth find a way to keep her true love? Will Henry and Diana have a chance together? And will Penelope accept to be left aside? You can only find out if you read the books. They are anything but boring.
