On Kitty's watchlist: Gossip Girl

This wouldn't be a girly girl blog if I wouldn't mention one of most girls' favourite tv show: Gossip Girl. I must say, the show is better than the books, which I find quite boring. The characters are a bit different, and the plot sooo much different, but in a good way.
Who doesn't want the glamorous life of Upper East Siders from Manhattan? Private schools, wild parties, haute couture and sexy situations. Isn't that what high school's supposed to be about?Well no, but that's why we have Gossip Girl.
The show revolves around a group of wealthy teenagers. Blair and Serena are frenemies and queens of the Constance Billiard school. Serena is tall, blond and wild and Blair is petitte, dark and frankly a bitch, but they known each other since they were children. Nate and Chuck are the hunks of Saint Jude high school and everything seems to be wonderful in their world until Nate cheats on Blair with Serena and Chuck has a sudden interest in Blair. Dan is the poor outsider who can't believe Serena notices him, and Vanessa is his rebellious ex.
If that got you confused, keep in mind their parents are equally as screwed up, so there are many dramatic situations and conflicts, but also many funny lines.
Each girl wants to be a Blair or a Serena. Although I'm more of a Blair character wise, I like Serena's fashion style better. As for the boys, Nate has those beautiful blue eyes, but Chuck's pervert gaze is...God, he's like a young Christian Grey if you ask me (Fifty Shades of Grey, anyone?).
So what are you waiting for? there are 6 seasons to watch, so get on with it already. You know you want to!
XOXO Gossip Girl :)

On Kitty's watchlist: Charmed

Hi, kitties!
Today I want yo recommend you one of my favourite shows of the '90s, Charmed. This series is about three sisters who discover after their grandmother's death that they have magical powers, and they have to fight demons, monsters and all kind of evil creatures to save innocent people.
The special effects are not the best because it's an old show, but I liked the actresses and of course the love stories each of them experience. Almost each episode was created with an "evil of the day", meaning a demon or something they ended up defeating and each season had some sort of strong enemy they had to fight with. It kind of reminds me of Power Rangers :)))).
I'm not a big fan of the final season, and I don't like the way my favourite lovestory between Phoebe and Cole turned out, but what do you gonna do? There are many funny moments and also many episodes in which the girls travel to another dimension, evil twins and all that stuff, so it was quite entertaining.
So if you're out of ideas for a tv show to watch, than maybe you'll remember about this one. Or if you're younger and you didn't see it back then, you could give it a shot now.

On Kitty's watchlist: Devious Maids

With so many new tv shows every fall and summer it's hard to stick to just a few, so I recently added another one to my watchlist. The creator is Marc Cherry, from Desperate Housewives, so I knew from the start it's gonna be about women, secrets and dark humor.
I watched the other day the pilot from this new show and I'm already hooked, so I feel comfortable enough to recommend it.
It's about 4 maids and their interactions with the families they work for. Of course, from the first episode, the secrets we have to discover are linked with a murder. One of the maids is murdered in strange circumstances by a waiter at a party, but did he really commit the crime? Or were her employers behind it? Her boss used to sleep with her (basically rape her) and his wife was holding a grunge against her.
Marisol (played by Ana Ortiz) is the new maid from the block. She works for the Stappords. The husband is at his second marriage and his young wife feel threatened by the ex. Marisol seems to be more than just a simple maid, and she has secrets on her own.
Rosie is working for a celebrities couple and she tries to bring her son to the US. The woman she works for doesn't give a damn about Rosie's pain and she won't give her a day off so that she can meet with the only lawyer she can afford.
Zoila(Judy Reyes) and her daughter Valentina are working for Genevieve Delatour (Susan Lucci), also a faded actress. Valentina has the hots for Genevieve's son and Zoila is concerned because she knows nothing good cane come out of an affair between them.
And finally Carmen (Roselyn Sanchez) works for Alejandro, a famous Latin singer. Carmen is an aspiring singer too, so she hopes she can convince Alejandro to help her. But his housekeeper and right hand at the same time, Odessa, is determined to make sure no one takes advantage of Alejandro's fame.
So there you have it. it's your usually Marc Cherry mix of mystery, drama and humor,so if you liked Desperate Housewives, give it a try.

On Kitty's watchlist: Desperate Housewives

Did you really think I wasn't going to mention this show on this girls blog? Well, of course the lovely ladies from Wisteria Lane are in my top favourite tv shows of all time. My favourite housewife was Gabrielle because I'm just like her when it comes to housework and stuff. Believe me, if I could afford it, I would so hire a housekeeper in no time to help me with the cleaning and especially with the cooking.
Anyways, Desperate Housewives was an interesting mix between drama, mystery and comedy, so I would never know what the next episode would be like and is what I like about a good tv show. The actresses were all likable and I was sad when Nicolette Sheridan decided to leave the show, but I liked watching it even after that.
For those of you whop don't know what the show is about, everything starts with the suicide of Mary Alice, a housewife from Wisteria Lane, a neighbourhood in the suburbans. Her neighbours and friends are trying to find out what made her take her own life and it turns out there are plenty more secrets on Wisteria Lane. Susan leaves with her daughter after divorce and is still trying to find the love of her life, Bree seems to have the perfect family with her husband and two kids, but there are many cracks in the family harmony, Lynette is raising three kids with her husband Tom and she tries to still have a career, Gaby is married to a wealthy businessman and her only worries are shopping and her affair withe the young gardener, and Edie is somewhat of the neighbourhood slut and she's trying to be friend with the rest of the four women.
I don't think this is a show just necessarily for women, because it's quite entertaining, so I encourage everyone to give it a try.

On Kitty's watchlist: Lipstick Jungle

I'll be the first to admit that Candace Bushnell's novels seem to be basically the same thing repeated over and over again and that Michael Patrick King is her partner in crime when it comes to tv shows. Nevertheless, I actually enjoyed this show and I was sad it got cancelled after only 2 seasons. The show revolves around 3 women who are trying to find the perfect balance between career and a good relationship.
This is more of a drama than anything else and it's not that funny  like Sex And The City, but I liked the main characters, the male ones not so much though. There is one who I guess is supposed to be similar to Mr Big, but Andrew McCarthy just can't pull of the dark and mysterious businessman like Chris Noth does.Of course, fashion plays again a big part, and Victory, one of the characters is actually a fashion designer so there are many eyecandies here and there.
Being such a short show, I think you could give it a try (if you haven't already), especially if you liked Sex And The City.

On Kitty's watchlist: Secret Diary of a Call Girl

This week, I'll recommend you o British tv show, based on the famous book about a London call girl named Belle de Jour. I've read the book, and let me tell you the show is much better. They don't have much in common asides the main character's name and occupation, but the show is pretty funny and it reminds me a lot of Sex And The City because sex scenes aren't always hot and heavy, they can be funny as hell as well.
Hanna seems to be your tipically British girl: young, pretty, with a passion for fashion and she works as a secretary. Or so do her parents think and her best friend, Ben. Secretly, Hanna works as a call girl and goes by the name Belle. She works for a exclusive agency and she has only rich men as clients. She doesn't work as a high class prostitute just for money (although she likes her glamorous lifestyle) but she genuinely isn't looking for love and a husband and all of those things.
The 4 seasons of the show follow Hanna trying to live a normal life while working as a call girl and her battle with love (because no one is immune), meaning she hopes to find a man who can accept her "job". If she succeeds or not, that's up to you to discover.
Hanna/Belle is played by actress and singer Billie Piper. I don't find her attractive at all, but then again I'm not a man. I do think she has the right attitude for the part though, so she's ok.
I don't know if this is a drama or a sitcom, or whatever because lately all tv shows are not belonging to a specific genre. Anyways, each episode is only about 20 minutes long, so it wouldn't take to much to watch the whole season. Not recommended for children!
P.S. Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate Easter today! (Me included).

On Kitty's watchlist: 2 Broke Girls

Hi, kitties!
This Sunday I want to tell a couple of things about another one of my favourite tv shows. As you can tell by now, I love sitcoms, but I'm also picky and I don't watch just anything there is on tv. Last year, I watched form the very beginning, 2 Broke Girls and I fell in love with the characters. One of the show's creators is Michael Patrick King (Sex And The City), so of course I like the witty, sarcastic lines Max especially uses.
Max and Caroline are two very different friends. Caroline was a Paris Hilton-like socialite until her father was accused of fraud and she lost all of her money. Without a place to live or a job, she's hired as a waitress in a diner in Williamsborough. Her colleague, Max, takes pity on her and offers her apartment so Caroline has a place to stay. Soon, Caroline discovers Max is very talented at making cupcakes and she has the idea of the two of them trying to make a business out of it.
Besides Max and Caroline, all the other characters are funny as well. We have the lovely Jennifer Coolidge (aka Stiffler's mom) playing a Polish immigrant named Sophie, the diner's cook Oleg, the diner's owner Han and Earl, the elderly cashier/jazz man.
The second season is almost over, but a third one is already scheduled in the fall, so Max and Caroline's adventures aren't by far over!

On Kitty's watchlist: Sex and the City

Hello, kitties!
I think it's not a surprise if I tell you I love, love, love SATC and of course my dream is to have Carrie Bradshaw's wardrobe and shoes. I honestly think there aren't too many women out there who don't love this show.
First of all, the main characters are all women. They live in New York (I don't know what's the fascination about this city, but I have it too), they have careers, a good fashion sense and a great sense of humor.
Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda represent each a type of personality. Carrie is clumsy, ditsy and basically she's all over the place, Samantha is someone those who are not her friends like to call a bitch, Charlotte is naive and dreams about a Prince Charming to come and save her and Miranda is a tough, bossy advocate who doesn't have time for real romance.
The four women have in common their friendship and the fact they know that men come and go, but a good friend is there for you no matter what.
I wasn't that intrigued by the language or the sex scenes, as I watched the show a couple of years back (I was pretty young when it first aired and I had other things on my mind), so now it doesn't seem that much big of a deal as it may have seemed back then. I just liked the humor of the show very much, and for me, it was more of a sitcom than anything else.
I'm sure there are still other SATC out there and I'm curious if you like to re-watch the show from time to time or if it seems too "old" by now.

On Kitty's watchlist:Friends

As you already know, i love sitcom and my all-time favorite is Friends. It's the only show I literally laugh until I get tears in my eyes. I'm so sorry It's over since more than 10 years now, but I still find it funny and I like to watch a couple of episodes at least once a week.
And how can I not love the happy gang: Rachel, Ross, Phoebe, Joey, Monica and Chandler. Matthew Perry is my favorite "friend" and Chandler and Monica were my favorite couple from the show. So, this rainy Sunday (well, at least here it rains) I'm gonna curl up on the couch and have some laughs with them.
